This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
MB Herbals Miswak Powder 8 oz (0.5 lb) | 100% Pure Siwak Sewak | Salvadora persica | Natural Tooth Powder | Miswaq Toothpowder

I've been using Miswak stick for 6 months and recently ran out.
This is my first time using a powdered version.
I wet my toothbrush and put it in the powder that's on my hand.
When it's wet, It smells and tastes bad.
I perfer the taste of the stick better.
But It does clean the plaque off my teeth.
I’ve only used it for a week
I’ll update soon
Update: at first this was 2 stars but I gave it a little more. Instead of returning it, I ended it using it with my toothpaste and since I eat a lot of sweets before this powder the back of my teeth had slight black spots and because of this it’s been going away. Still tastes and smells horrible but it is a good product. ~ august 12
What Is Miswak and Why Is It Used?
Miswak (also spelled “siwak”) comes from the roots, twigs, or stems of the Salvadora persica tree, native to the Middle East, Africa, and parts of India. For centuries, people have chewed the ends of these twigs to create a natural toothbrush. The practice is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition—the Prophet Muhammad is reported to have used miswak regularly, and it remains a Sunnah (recommended practice) for oral hygiene. Scientifically, miswak contains natural antibacterial agents like trimethylamine, salvadorine, and fluoride, which help reduce plaque, fight gum disease, and whiten teeth.
MB Herbals Miswak Powder: Product Overview
MB Herbals Miswak Powder is a 100% pure, food‑grade powder made from ground miswak twigs. It comes in an 8 oz pack, is produced in India, and has a naturally sweet, gentle fragrance. The product is unflavored, meaning no artificial additives or preservatives. It can be used on its own (by wetting the toothbrush and dipping it into the powder) or mixed with regular toothpaste for a gentler experience. The manufacturer, Phoenix Medicaments Pvt. Ltd., lists the product as #1,715 in the Toothpaste category on Amazon, with a customer rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars (based on 58 reviews).
Key Benefits of Miswak Powder Based on User Experience
From real customer feedback (like the one shared above), here are the main advantages and considerations:
1. Plaque Removal – Effective but Requires Patience
The reviewer noticed that after just one week, the powder “cleans the plaque off my teeth.” Miswak's abrasive yet fine particles physically scrub away surface deposits without being too harsh on enamel. Many users find it comparable to traditional toothpaste in cleaning power, especially when used consistently.
2. Stain & Black Spot Reduction – A Surprising Bonus
The reviewer updated their experience after mixing the powder with their regular toothpaste: “the back of my teeth had slight black spots… it's been going away.” Black spots on teeth often come from excessive sugar consumption, coffee, tea, or tobacco. The natural silica and antibacterial compounds in miswak may help break down these stains and prevent new ones from forming. Mixing with toothpaste provides additional fluoride and a more pleasant taste.
3. Natural & Additive‑Free – Ideal for Sensitive Mouths
MB Herbals Miswak Powder is 100% pure with no preservatives, flavors, or synthetic chemicals. This makes it suitable for people who react to artificial ingredients in commercial toothpaste. However, the pure, unflavored powder has a strong, herbal taste and smell that some find unpleasant—an important trade‑off for naturalness.
4. Versatility – Use Alone or Mix
You can apply the powder directly by wetting your toothbrush, or combine it with your regular toothpaste (as the reviewer did) to mask the taste and boost cleaning power. This flexibility allows users to gradually adapt to the natural flavor while still benefiting from miswak's properties.
How to Use Miswak Powder Effectively
To get the best results while minimizing the strong taste:
Start with once daily, then increase to twice daily if your gums tolerate it (some users report mild sensitivity at first). Store the powder in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent clumping.
Important Notes for First‑Time Users
- Taste & Smell: The reviewer described the wet powder as “smells and tastes bad.” This is normal—pure miswak has a pungent, earthy, slightly bitter note. It fades as you brush and your mouth adjusts. Mixing with mint toothpaste helps significantly.
- Texture: The powder can feel fine and slightly gritty. Rinse thoroughly after brushing. If you have very sensitive gums or enamel erosion, consult your dentist before using abrasive powders.
- Effectiveness Timeline: While some see plaque reduction immediately, deeper stain removal (like black spots) may take 1–2 weeks of regular use, as the reviewer noted. Be patient.
Scientific Background: Why Miswak Works
Miswak contains natural antimicrobial compounds that inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans (a primary bacteria causing cavities) and other oral pathogens. It also releases mild astringents that tighten gum tissue and reduce bleeding. The mechanical abrasion from the powder helps remove biofilm (plaque). Some studies show miswak users have lower plaque indices and less gum inflammation compared to standard toothpaste users, though results vary. For stain removal, the fine silica particles act as a gentle polishing agent without the harshness of charcoal or baking soda.
Is MB Herbals Miswak Powder Right for You?
If you value natural, preservative‑free oral care and are willing to tolerate a strong taste for superior plaque and stain removal, this product is an excellent choice. It's especially helpful for people who develop black spots from sugary diets or who want a chemical‑free alternative. However, if the taste is a deal‑breaker, consider mixing it with your favorite toothpaste—most users find that manageable. The 8 oz pack is generous and will last months if used sparingly.
Final Thought
The reviewer's honest experience—from initial disappointment to eventual satisfaction—mirrors many user journeys. Miswak powder isn't a quick fix; it's a traditional, proven solution that requires a short adjustment period. Once you adapt, the benefits (cleaner teeth, fewer stains, healthier gums) can be rewarding. Remember: always follow up with regular dental check‑ups, and brush for at least two minutes, covering all surfaces.
