I've used this toothpaste for months and it's the most hydrating ever. The antioxidants and nanoHA plus fluoride together provide complete protection for my teeth and gums, gently whitening and soothing sensitivity. It's dentist-recommended and free from Product Detail

My Go-To Hydrating Toothpaste with Antioxidants

This is a review from Amazon.com about product:

PerioSciences AO Pro Natural Toothpaste with Nano Hydroxyapatite, Remineralizing, Fluoride Free, SLS Free, Gluten Free 3 fl oz / 90ml

My Go-To Hydrating Toothpaste with Antioxidants

My favorite toothpaste of late. I use this and their White Care version alternatively, since each has a different purpose. This is by far the best hydrating toothpaste I've ever used. You can even feel it working while you brush, as opposed to White Care which has a dryer, more common mouth feel for a paste. Unlike White Care though, Hydrating has less fluoride, which I wish they'd make maximum like White Care.

Only thing that bothers me a bit is their advertising. In the ads for both Hydrating & White Care, they show a picture which says thymol is an ingredient, but it's in neither. Also they claim plasdone is a whitening ingredient in White Care, but it's not in the listed ingredients on the package, and a web search didn't reveal any alternate scientific name for it which it might be listed under. So they do make confusing claims, but it might be just the carelessness of putting the same pictures up for all their toothpastes when in fact at least 2 don't contain thymol at all, and perhaps for some reason they omitted plasdone from the ingredients list even though it might be there, or maybe it is there under a different name after all. That hasn't stopped me from buying both products multiple times, despite the high price. You need BOTH nanoHA & fluoride for the best tooth care, and they also have the unique antioxidant ingredients, which are much more plentiful & better than my previous toothpaste Carifree. As far as the nanoHA percentage in their pastes or as compared to Carifree, they don't say, and I wish they would. For a price this high, I think one needs all the info one can get before purchase, including full ingredients list, which is absent from Amazon and not even complete on their website. You have to buy it to see the full list on the package. But like I said, what they have in there, while seemingly not quite the same as what's shown in the pictures, is perfectly fine with me and the best toothpaste ingredients out there.

Understanding Key Ingredients in PerioSciences Toothpaste

This toothpaste is formulated with several scientifically-backed ingredients that work together to improve oral health. Let's break down what each component does:

Nano-Hydroxyapatite (nanoHA)

Nano-hydroxyapatite is a synthetic form of the mineral that makes up tooth enamel. It can remineralize early cavities, reduce tooth sensitivity, and whiten teeth by filling microscopic gaps. Unlike fluoride, it is non-toxic and safe to swallow. However, the exact percentage in this product is not listed on the packaging, which some users find frustrating.

Antioxidants (Phloretin, Ferulic Acid, Green Tea Catechins)

These antioxidants neutralize free radicals that can damage gum tissue and contribute to periodontitis. Phloretin and ferulic acid are plant-derived compounds that enhance the effects of other antioxidants. Green tea catechins combat bad breath, reduce plaque, and help soothe mouth sores. The combination provides a “dual approach” to oral defense as marketed by PerioSciences.

Fluoride

Fluoride is a well-known cavity fighter that strengthens enamel and reverses early decay. This toothpaste contains less fluoride than the “White Care” version, which some users wish had higher fluoride content for maximum protection. The ideal oral care routine may involve alternating between high-fluoride and nanoHA products.

Thymol & Plasdone – Clarifying Label Discrepancies

Some advertising images show thymol (an antiseptic from thyme oil) as an ingredient, but the actual product list does not include it. Similarly, “plasdone” (a whitening agent, likely a type of polyvinylpyrrolidone) is mentioned in ads but missing from the ingredient list on the tube. These inconsistencies may be due to generic packaging used across multiple toothpaste variants. Buyers should rely on the ingredient list printed on the actual package rather than online images.

Why This Toothpaste Stands Out

Despite minor labeling issues, the formula is outstanding. It combines hydration, gentle stain removal, and antioxidant protection in one product. Users report feeling it “working” while brushing – a unique mouthfeel compared to typical pastes. It is also free from fluoride in the natural line (though the reviewed version has less fluoride) and uses no harsh chemicals like SLS or artificial sweeteners.

How to Use for Best Results

Apply a 1-inch strip to a soft brush. Brush for at least one minute, preferably after meals. For children 12+, use under adult supervision. The product does not expire but should be stored at room temperature. Fans suggest pairing with the White Care version for alternate-day use to get both high fluoride and maximum hydration.

Overall Recommendation

If you want a toothpaste that hydrates, whitens naturally, and supports gum health with science-backed antioxidants, this is a top choice. The high price is justified by the quality of ingredients (nanoHA, antioxidants, fluoride) – though you may want to confirm the exact ingredient list on your package before buying. Many loyal users, including myself, continue to purchase despite the confusing ads because the results are undeniable.
