Zero Waste up to 6 Month Supply Organic Vegan Fluoride Free Tooth Powder Peppermint Flavor- Ships Without Any Plastic Packaging I Natural Whitening I Stronger Teeth

Overall I’d give it 4/5 stars. As far as a product that’s plastic free, good for the environment, price point, and effectiveness it does very well. My teeth feel clean and it’s easy to use. Saving one less plastic package from landfill. The packaging was also super cute. My only complaint is that it doesn’t taste very good... I got the peppermint kind. It kind of tastes like stale, old mints that have been crushed up. I do like, however, that it’s not a strong taste or very potent. It does leave my mouth feeling clean. I would consider buying again but maybe a different flavor
What Is Zero-Waste Tooth Powder?
Zero-waste tooth powder is a dry alternative to traditional toothpaste, typically sold in compostable or recyclable packaging to minimize plastic waste. The Simply Sooney Tooth Powder reviewed here is handcrafted in ultra-small batches using vegan, organic ingredients milled into a velvety smooth powder. It uses food-safe paper packaging and no plastics in shipping, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious consumers.
Key Ingredients and Their Benefits
The formula includes Pure Bentonite Clay (known for gentle abrasion and detoxifying properties), Vegan Calcium Carbonate (a mild abrasive that helps remove plaque), NON-GMO USA Birch Xylitol (a natural sweetener that fights cavity-causing bacteria), Magnesium Citrate (supports enamel health), Himalayan Salt (provides minerals and mild antibacterial action), and Certified Organic Peppermint Essential Oil (for fresh breath). All ingredients are free from artificial sweeteners, BPA, fluoride, gluten, and triclosan.
How to Use and User Experience
The user simply dips a damp toothbrush into the powder and brushes normally. The review notes that teeth feel clean and easy to use, though the peppermint flavor is described as “stale, old mints crushed up”—likely due to the absence of strong synthetic flavorings. However, the taste is mild and not potent, leaving a fresh feeling. The product earns 4/5 stars for its effectiveness, eco-friendliness, price point, and cute packaging.
Why Taste Differs from Traditional Toothpaste
Traditional toothpastes often contain strong artificial flavors, foaming agents (like SLS), and humectants (like glycerin) that create a smooth, wet paste. Tooth powder lacks these additives, so the natural mint flavor is less intense and can taste drier or chalkier. The staleness mentioned may also come from the essential oil oxidizing over time. Users who prefer subtle natural flavors will appreciate this, while those used to conventional toothpastes might find it underwhelming.
Environmental Impact and Packaging
This product eliminates plastic waste entirely—the powder comes in a food-safe paper pouch, and shipping uses no plastic materials. Each purchase saves one less plastic tube from landfill. The review praises the cute packaging, which also serves as a refill for a glass jar. This aligns with the growing zero-waste movement and reduces the carbon footprint of oral care routines.
Who Should Try This Tooth Powder?
Ideal for individuals seeking a plastic-free, vegan, and organic oral care option. It suits those with sensitive gums or those avoiding fluoride and artificial additives. The product is best for people who prefer a mild, natural mint flavor and don't mind the texture of a powder. If you enjoy strong, foaming toothpaste, this may require an adjustment period.
Comparison with Traditional Toothpaste
Unlike paste, tooth powder does not foam or produce a creamy lather. It relies on the abrasive action of fine particles and the cleansing properties of clays and salts. Some users find it more effective at removing surface stains and plaque because the dry powder adheres better to toothbrush bristles. The absence of glycerin also means less sticky residue in the mouth.
Storage and Shelf Life
To prevent clumping, store the powder in a dry jar away from moisture. The paper packaging is resealable but transferring to an airtight glass jar is recommended. The ingredients have a long shelf life due to low moisture content, but essential oils may degrade over time, affecting flavor potency. Use within 6-12 months for best experience.
Final Recommendation Based on the Review
Based on this customer's experience, Simply Sooney Tooth Powder is a high-quality, sustainable product that delivers a clean feeling and reduces plastic waste. The only drawback is the mild, slightly stale peppermint taste. Trying a different flavor (e.g., cinnamon or charcoal) may improve satisfaction. Overall, it's a great entry point into zero-waste oral care for those willing to adapt to a powder format.
